Compassionate Pediatrics

Back To Pediatrics

At Banner Children’s, our pediatricians are here for - and because of - kids.

Caring for them is our calling. Our teams of experienced providers deliver comprehensive, family-centered medical care designed just for children, teens and young adults.

We see the whole child - managing physical, behavioral and mental health needs while diagnosing and treating childhood illnesses and injuries.

Parenting is one of life's greatest journeys, and our medical doctors are here to support you and your child every step of the way.

How often should my child see a pediatrician?

Your child's health care needs change as they grow. Your health care provider will recommend how often your child should visit the pediatrician. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) suggests starting visits a few days after birth and continuing regular checkups until age 21. These visits help track growth, provide vaccinations and offer guidance at every life stage.

How to find a pediatrician near you

Banner Health has hundreds of pediatricians ready to take care of your family. Many have additional training in pediatric subspecialties like emergency medicine to offer specialized care when needed.

We make it easy to find a pediatrician near you who meets your family's needs.

What to ask when choosing a pediatrician

Whether you’re expecting a baby or looking to switch providers, it's important to find the right pediatrician for treating children. You'll want someone you can trust to help guide your child's health journey.

When searching for a pediatrician, consider:

  • Asking for recommendations from friends and family
  • Checking office location, office hours and after-hours availability
  • Making sure the pediatrician accepts your health insurance
  • Confirming they are certified by the American Board of Pediatrics
  • Finding out if they are a member of the Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
  • Learning where they attended medical school and trained in pediatrics
  • Asking about their experience in health care for children and young adults

Important questions to ask during your visit

When you meet your child's new pediatrician, use the opportunity to ask important questions:

  • What experience do they have in diagnosing and treating common childhood conditions?
  • What is their health care philosophy and does it fit your parenting style?
  • How does the office handle emergencies and after-hours care?
  • Do they offer telemedicine appointments?
  • Can you visit other doctors at the practice if needed?
  • Is there a nurse or answering service available after hours?

Building a relationship with your pediatrician helps create a supportive, trusted environment for your family.

What to expect at well-child visits

Banner Children’s well-child visits help keep your child healthy at every age. These regular checkups allow your provider to:

  • Track growth and development
  • Screen for developmental, physical, behavioral and emotional concerns
  • Provide timely vaccinations
  • Offer guidance and answer your health questions

Well-child visits are a vital part of preventive medical care.

Vaccinations and immunizations for children and teens

Vaccines protect infants, children and teens from serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses.

At Banner Children's, our providers follow the vaccination schedules recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and other leading organizations to keep your child safe and healthy.
